We are shining our designer spotlight on the wonderful creators behind The Old Tattered Flag! Known for their stunning, textured punch needle patterns and their role as the proud manufacturers of the iconic Ultra Punch Needle, they are absolute favorites here at The Artful Needleworker.

Carol DeCoteau and Julie Thomas are the talented mother-and-daughter team behind The Old Tattered Flag. Carol brings decades of expertise in rug hooking, having started in 1995 and hooked over 1,000 rugs throughout her career. Her daughter, Julie, specializes in miniature punch needle—an art form she fell in love with in 2003—and has created over 400 unique designs for their shop. Together, they share their passion for primitive crafts through teaching and have co-authored the book Tattered & Timeless: Rug Hooking and Punch Needle Embroidery with The Old Tattered Flag, which features beautiful projects celebrating both of their signature crafts.
